16 Years Old

You have to be at least 16 years old to get a Quebec motorcycle learners license. If you are under the age of 18, parent/guardian consent will also have to be provided when you apply for your 6R learner licence.

Canadian Residency

If you are not a Canadian citizen, you will need to show proof of eligibility to be in Canada for at least 6 months before you can apply for a Class 6R Quebec motorcycle learners license.

Register For A Driving Course

As part of the SAAQ's effort to ensure that all new drivers are highly capable of navigating Quebec road situations, it is mandatory for new motorcycle drivers to enroll in a driving course. Before enrolling in a driving course you must fill out the Medical Sheet - Questionnaire to Complete Before Taking a Driving Course and confirm that your chosen driving school is accredited by the Association québécoise des transports.

6R Knowledge Practice Tests

Once you've built a good understanding of Quebec road signs, road rules (see here) and motorcycle handling, you are ready to test your motorcycle driving knowledge with our Quebec motorcycle practice test - Class 6R. Use our free practice tests as many times as you need to consistently get a passing score. The more you practice the higher your chances of doing well on the real Class 6R SAAQ motorcycle knowledge test.

Knowledge Test

  • 1-hour multiple choice question test
  • Designed to test your knowledge of motorcycle operation concepts and how you apply that knowledge to actual driving situations.

Existing Class 5 Licence Holders

  • The Class 6R SAAQ motorcycle knowledge test is 32 questions covering driving techniques, risks and behaviors you need to exhibit when driving a motorcycle in Quebec. You will not be tested on road signs, signals and traffic rules because you would have already been tested on these during the knowledge test for your Quebec Class 5 learner licence.

New Drivers

  • The Class 6R SAAQ motorcycle knowledge test is made up of 3 separate test sections with a total of 64 questions on motorcycle driving techniques, road signs, signals and traffic rules.

Passing the knowledge test: In order to pass the Class 6R SAAQ motorcycle knowledge test, you need to

  • Score an 85% on the section associated with operating a motorcycle
  • Score a 75% on the section for road signs, signals and traffic rules (applies to new drivers)

Vision Test

A vision test will be administered to check your eyesight.

Arrive Early

Even with a scheduled appointment, you should aim to arrive at least 20-30 minutes in advance of your appointment time so you can settle in and be in a relaxed mindset to take the Class 6R motorcycle test.

Documents to Bring

You will need to provide your identity when you arrive at a SAAQ service outlet.

  • Already licensed drivers can use their issued driver's license or ID card issued by the SAAQ to have their driver licensing file accessed
  • New drivers will have to provide two official documents (one must have a photo on it).

Born in Canada

At least one of the documents must be:

  • Original birth certificate
  • Canadian Citizenship Certificate with photo
  • Canadian passport
  • Official Canadian Armed Forces identity card
  • Certificate of Indian Status

The second document can be:

  • Health Insurance Card
  • Drivers licence issued by another province/territory

NOT Born in Canada

At least one of the documents must be:

  • Canadian Citizenship Certificate with photo
  • Canadian passport
  • Official Canadian Armed Forces identity card
  • Proof of known legal presence in Canada
  • Permanent Resident Card

The second document can be:

  • Health Insurance Card
  • Foreign driver's licence

Parental Consent

If you are under the age of 18, you must provide parent/guardian consent before you can apply for a Quebec motorcycle learners license. A completed Consent of Person Having Parental Authority form must be presented.

Vision Aids

Make sure you bring along any vision aids like glasses or contacts to the test. In addition, you will need to fill out the Declaration of Illness or Functional Impairment form at the SAAQ service outlet office.

Applicable Fees

The cost of the SAAQ motorcycle knowledge test is $11.20. The cost of a Quebec motorcycle learners license is $62.43. You need to make sure you bring cash/debit or cheque/money order to pay these associated fees. The service outlet locations do not accept credit card payments.

Test Re-takes

If you fail the SAAQ motorcycle knowledge test, you must wait at least 28 days before you will be allowed to take the test again. You will have to reschedule an appointment to re-take the test.

Minimum Licence Holding Period

You must hold a Quebec motorcycle learners license for at least 30 days and complete a driving course during that time period before you become eligible to apply for a Quebec Class 6A learner license.

Driver Education

While at the Class 6R Quebec motorcycle learners license stage, you need to complete a driving course at a school recognized by the Association québécoise des transports. The 30-day course is divided up into two learning blocks:

Block 1: Driving on a closed track

  • 3 hours of theoretical training to prepare you on how to operate a motorcycle on a closed track
  • 16 hours of practical training

Block 2: Driving on the road

  • 3 hours of theoretical training to prepare you on how to operate a motorcycle on an actual road
  • 10 hours of practical training

Once you've passed the training, you will receive an attestation from your driving school confirming you have successfully completed this component of Quebec's motorcycle driver training.

Supervised Driving

You can only drive a motorcycle with a 6R license if you are supervised by a licensed driver as part of the driving course. You can operate a motorcycle on a closed track and open road as stipulated by the training requirements of your driving course. Keep in mind, anytime you drive your motorcycle on public roads, you must have appropriate Quebec motorcycle insurance in place, as well as be able to show appropriate documentation for the bike you are driving if asked by the police.
