The PEI Class 5 Driver’s License - Stage 3 (G)

Congratulations! If you have completed the PEI Instruction Driver’s Permit - Class 7 and the PEI Class 5 - Stage 2 phase of the PEI GDL program, you are well on your way to getting the full, unrestricted PEI Class 5 driver’s license and becoming a safe, fully qualified Prince Edward Island passenger vehicle driver. Make sure you always refer back to the PEI Driver's Handbook if you ever have any questions or concerns, and stay aware of changes in driving laws in PEI. A PEI Class 5 driver’s license comes with a lot of responsibility, including maintaining adequate PEI auto insurance, and having the appropriate documentation in place for the vehicle you are driving.

Your Stage 3 PEI Class 5 Driver’s License

The Class 5 Stage 3 drivers license is the final stage of passenger vehicle licensing in PEI. At this stage, drivers move out of the PEI graduated driver licensing program to get a full PEI Class 5 driver’s license. You should be able to get your Class 5 level 3 licence after 1 year of safe driving and complying with the license restrictions at the PEI Class 5 Level 2 stage. 18 Years Old

You must be 18 years old for this Class 5 Stage 3 licensing stage.

Stage 2 licence holder

You need to have held a Class 5 Stage 2 licence for 1 year (excluding any suspensions) to qualify for your Class 5 Stage 3 licence.

Min Licence Holding Period

You will need to remain at the Class 5 Stage 3 level for another year before you can graduate to a full PEI Class 5 drivers license.

Licence Suspensions

Any license suspensions increase the time you need to spend at the Stage 3 level.

  • First offense  - 30-day license suspension
  • Second offense - 90-day license suspension

G Decal Display

You must continue to display the PEI G decal on your windshield as you did at the PEI Class 5 Stage 2 licensing level. Remember, if at any time you would like to refresh your road rules and road signs driving knowledge, we invite you to use our free PEI Class 7 practice test series.

No Alcohol

You cannot drink any alcohol when operating a vehicle.

Passenger Limit

You are limited to carrying only as many passengers as there are working seatbelts in the vehicle. All passengers must wear a seatbelt.

Handheld Devices Are Banned

The use of any handheld devices when operating a vehicle is against the law. You could receive an immediate license suspension.

The PEI Class 5 - Stage 2 (G) licence is obtained after passing a road test and is step 2 in the PEI graduated driver licensing program. Stage 2 drivers can drive without a supervising driver.
