At this stage in your licensing journey, you get to put into practice all of the knowledge you acquired for the Alberta motorcycle learners test. Pay attention to the correct way to perform motorcycle riding maneuvers and practice as much as you can. The more comfortable you become on a motorcycle the better your chances of confidently passing the Class 6 road test. Some of the key skills you should be focusing on are:

• Serpentine pattern driving (weaving left and right through markers)
• Figure eight or circle pattern driving
• Riding your motorcycle as a slow speed in a straight line
• Shifting gears in anticipation of curves in the road
• Riding on a hill
• Shifting up, shifting down then turning left and right
• Quickly stopping in emergency situations
• Steering around or braking to avoid possible obstacles in your path

As a learner, in order to practice the skills necessary to pass your Class 6 road test you must always be accompanied by a supervisor. Your supervising driver must hold a valid, full Class 6 driver's licence (he/she cannot be in the graduated licensing program) and should always be either on the learner's motorcycle or following on another motorcycle or vehicle. Some additional conditions you must adhere to are:

• You must maintain a blood alcohol level of zero
• You cannot exceed more than eight demerit points
• You cannot supervise another learning rider

• The Alberta motorcycle learners test is electronically administered, and is based on the Alberta Drivers Handbook
• The test is not timed and you must answer a minimum of 25 questions correctly to pass

• The Class 6 road test is administered in a traffic situation
• The test duration is approximately 45 minutes during which an examiner will assess a riders ability to ride a motorcycle in a variety of road conditions
• The test will include:
  - An equipment and motorcycle fitness check
  - An assessment of the riders ability to navigate turns, signal and correctly follow road rules/signs
  - An evaluation of a riders balance, road position and general bike control
• Examining riders usually follow the motorcycle rider in another vehicle while relaying instructions to the rider via a radio
• You will be instructed to pull over to the curb a minimum of three times during the test regardless of errors to allow the examiner to score on his/her checklist
• Once the Class 6 road test has been completed you will return to the examination center, be given an opportunity to review the test results with your examiner and then receive a of the examination checklist and a copy of your test permit (if you successfully passed)

Class 6 knowledge test: The Alberta motorcycle learners test or knowledge test can be written without an appointment but it's recommended that you arrive at an Alberta registry agent well in advance of closing time to pay the required fees, register and have enough time to properly attempt the test.

Class 6 road test: In order to take the class 6 road test you will need to pre-register through a registry agent. It's recommended to still arrive 30 mins in advance of your booked time slot to get settled and organized before your road test begins.

Proof of identification is required in order to take any driver licensing test. You will need to show the following identification:

• Primary identification - One of the following:  Canadian birth certificate, a valid Canadian passport or an aboriginal status card
• If born outside of Canada - One of the following: A valid Canadian passport, Canadian permanent resident card or Canadian work/study permit that is valid for more than 90 days
• Secondary identification - One of the following: social insurance card, Alberta health care card, firearms license or debit/credit card that includes first and last name with a signature
• Proof of residency - The proof of residency must contain an Alberta address, a first and last name and a date that cannot be older than 90 days with exceptions of residential lease agreement. Some examples include utility bill, bank or credit card statement, pay stub, residential lease agreement, letter of employment confirmation or a letter from school

• In order to take the knowledge test you will need to bring along your existing Class 5 drivers licence
• A copy of your road test permit purchased through your Alberta Registry Agent office
• A motorcycle in good working condition. Prior to beginning the motorcycle test the examiner will conduct an assessment on whether the motorcycle is fit for the test
• Valid motorcycle insurance and valid registration documentation for the motorcycle being brought to the test

Acceptable Alberta Identity Documents

Make sure you bring along any vision aids like glasses or contacts to the test.
