In Saskatchewan every new driving license applicant is automatically entered in to a GDL(Graduated Driver Licensing). This system has four stages which require to be completed prior to receiving a full class 5 license . During the first stage, a driver has to pass a knowledge test consisting of Saskatchewan road rules and traffic signs questions. Once passed a driver will receive a Class 7 license. For the second stage a driver has to pass the road test and once passed the driver will receive a class 5 Novice 1 license. After 6 months of holding a Novice 1 license a driver is automatically graduated to the Novice 2 term which lasts 12 months. For the stage three, at the end of 12 months provided the driving record is suspension/traffic violation free a driver receives their full Class 5 license.
