Class G1 License

How to get your G1:
  • You must be 16 years or older
  • Visit a licensing office to pass a vision test and a written knowledge test about the rules of the road and traffic signs.
Rules to abide by when driving with a G1 license:
  • Maintain zero blood alcohol level at all times
  • Always be accompanied by a G licensed driver who has at least 4 years of driving experience
  • Refrain from driving on any Ontario "400-series" highways
  • Refrain from driving between midnight and 5:00 am
Duration license must be held:

12 months (can be reduced to 8 if you take a ministry approved driving course)

G2 license

How to get your G2:

After 12 months of holding a G1 license (or 8 months if you have completed a ministry approved driving course) you are eligible to take the G1 road test. Upon successful completion of this road test you can obtain your G2 license

Maintain zero blood alcohol level at all times

Duration license must be held:

12 months

After 12 months of holding a G2 license you are eligible to take the G2 road test. On successful completion of this road test you can obtain your G license
