Class 5 Level I License

How to get your Class 5 Level I License

• You must be 16 years or older
• Visit a licensing office to pass a vision test and a written knowledge test about the rules of the road and traffic signs
• If you are under the age of 18 parental or legal guardian consent is required before this license can be issued to you

Rules to abide by when driving with a Class 5 level I license

• Maintain zero blood alcohol level at all times
• Must always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver who has held a Class 5 licence for at least 4 years
• Not permitted to drive between the hours of midnight and 5 am
• Must display a "NOVICE" driver sign in rear window at all times

Duration license must be held

12 months prior to being able to take the Class 5 road test (may be reduced to 8 months upon the successful completion of a Ministry recognized driver training course)

Class 5 Level II License

How to get your Class 5 Level I License

After 12 months, a class 5 level I driver can attempt a road test. If successfully passed a driver will receive class 5 level II license. Waiting time period can be reduced from 10 months to 8 month upon the successful completion of Ministry recognized driver training course.

Rules to abide by when driving with a Class 5 level I license

• Maintain zero blood alcohol level at all times
• Must always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver who has held a Class 5 licence for at least 4 years if driving between 12:00am and 5:00 am. Must provide proof of working hours upon police officer's request.
• Number of passengers allowed in vehicle are equal to number of seatbelts

Duration license must be held

24 months prior to being able to take the Class 5 road test

Class 5 License

Upon completion of 2 years a Class 7 Level II driver is allowed to take the Class 5 road test. Successful completion of this test allows a driver full driving privileges in Newfoundland and Labrador
