In B.C. every new driving license applicant is automatically entered in to a GLP(Graduated Licensing Program). This system has three stages which require to be completed prior to receiving a full class 5 license. During stage one, a driver has to pass a knowledge test consisting of British Columbia road rules and traffic signs questions. Once passed a driver will receive a Class 7 license. During stage two a driver has to attempt the first road test and once successfully passed a driver will receive a class 7(N) license. During stage three a driver will become eligible to take the second road test to graduate to a full Class 5 license after 12 months. However this time period can be reduced to 6 months by taking an ICBC approved course provided by driving schools in British Columbia while a driver is still in the learner's (class 7 license)stage.
